However, just because it is common, does not mean that it has to be your normal. They can be addressed using physio training programmes and a little education.

Incontinence refers to the leakage of urine or stool from the bladder or bowel. There are two types urinary incontinence: stress and urge incontinence.

Stress incontinence is the loss of urine associated with coughing, laughing, sneezing, lifting or exercise. Urge incontinence is the leakage of urine associated with an urgent need to go to the toilet.

These issues can be addressed through an individualised treatment programme and specific education designed around your needs and goals.

Symptoms to watch for:

  • Leaking urine involuntary when you cough, sneeze, lift, laugh, when you exercise or with any activity

  • Going to the toilet more than once every 2-3 hours

  • Experiencing a strong urge to go to the bathroom and difficulty holding on

  • Inability to stop the flow of urine (Please note that this is not encouraged as an exercise, but can be a helpful once-off test)

  • Difficulty holding stool in

  • Difficulty getting everything out

  • Experiencing constipation and a need to strain to empty your bowels

  • Difficulty starting the stream of urine

  • Inability to completely empty your bladder

If you regularly experience any of the above, Nichole would be happy to meet with you for a consultation. In this consultation you can discuss any concerns and together, develop a customised strategy to move towards wellness.
